The realities we design around.

MedTech, diagnostics and lab products exist to improve patient care and clinical work. A strong customer experience depends on how well they fit everyday workflows, how confidently people can use them and how reliably they perform. Safety and effectiveness requirements shape these decisions from the start.

We bring these realities into the process early, and help teams make better decisions sooner.

Regulation sets the pace.

MDR and IVDR in Europe, FDA Design Controls in the US, ISO 13485 quality systems. Requirements and stage gates decide what can change, and when. After the design freezes, every change costs more time and more documentation.

Usability is part of safety.

Clinicians, lab staff and patients need to understand what to do, read and interpret information clearly, and handle products confidently. We design and test user interactions around real workflows, from physical handling to digital interfaces, to make tasks clearer and reduce the risk of user errors.

Thinking across the whole system can reduce costs and emissions.

Hygiene and sterilisation requirements shape decisions about materials, packaging and single-use products. We work with R&D, manufacturing and supply chain teams to assess how these choices affect production, workflow setup, everyday use and disposal. This helps identify where waste, costs and emissions can be reduced while meeting safety and performance requirements.

What we do for MedTech

Prototype the reality fast

We turn promising ideas into tangible prototypes within weeks, so teams can experience concepts in real workflows. Making ideas tangible brings requirements, assumptions and trade-offs into context, helping teams make faster, more confident decisions based on what they can see, handle and test. Issues surface early, while the design is still easier to change.

  • Experience & concept prototyping
  • Technical validation
  • Usability insight

Design regulatory-ready

We design around the key drivers of MDR and FDA: regulation, patient safety, usability and hygiene. These requirements shape the product from the first concept, so compliance is designed in, not added at the end.

  • Product design & engineering
  • Materials & manufacturing innovation

Map circular ecosystems and business models

We map waste streams and material flows, then calculate the circular business models that make commercial sense. Single-use devices become high-value waste, and most of it is incinerated today.

  • Circular ecosystem mapping
  • Business model design
  • Impact measurement

Design products around the workflow

We design medical devices, diagnostic instruments and lab systems around how people actually use them. By considering sample handling, software, cleaning and handoffs between equipment early, we help teams identify where a promising concept could slow down everyday work.

  • Product & interaction design
  • Workflow prototyping
  • Engineering & validation

“They demonstrated deep expertise in the industry and guided us thoughtfully through complex decisions. What impressed us most was their ability to stay true to the strategy.”

Questions we hear from MedTech teams

When should we involve INDEED in a MedTech project?

Before the design freezes. We help clarify what matters to your customers and bring usability, engineering, manufacturing and regulatory requirements into early decisions. This helps your team move forward confidently while there is still room to change direction.

Which MedTech products do you work on?

Medical devices, diagnostic instruments and laboratory systems, including their digital interactions and integration with data systems. We design products and user experiences around real workflows to help improve processes and documentation.

How do you work with our regulatory and quality teams?

We work with your teams from the concept phase to clarify requirements, identify risks and guide early design decisions. As concepts develop, we review them together against these requirements. If needed, we can also bring in a certification partner to support the process and help navigate relevant certification requirements. Your teams retain ownership of formal design controls and regulatory submissions.

How quickly can we see something tangible?

Ideas become prototypes within weeks. An early experience prototype gives your team one shared reference to react to, and shows where usability, manufacturability or regulation will push back

Where does circularity fit in?

Circular thinking is part of how we design, from materials and packaging to consumables, reuse and waste management. We consider how consumables are used and how waste—including contaminated materials—is handled, separated and disposed of. We assess these opportunities alongside safety, usability and hygiene requirements, within your risk management and design control processes.

Which companies have you worked with in this industry?

We’ve worked with leading companies across MedTech, diagnostics and laboratory systems, including Roche, Philips, Eppendorf, Siemens, BICO, GE HealthCare, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Dräger, Sartorius and Johnson & Johnson, among many others.
