Nobody knows them, everyone pays them. In Germany, we have instead of corporate liability a compulsory membership of the statutory accident insurance VBG, which protects entrepreneurs from claims for damages after an accident at work or an occupational disease of their employees.

Safety at work made easy for companies and bosses
Service design for more effectiveness and efficiency in public service
Blueprints reflecting all stakeholder needs and wants

Sounds complicated? But it really isn’t. Together with the VBG marketing and communication team, we have found ways to get the message “safety at work” to the right stakeholders. Specifically, this means that we not only worked out the various personas and user needs in a service design process lasting several months in several co-creation workshops, but also developed two prototypical service design blueprints in iterative conception rounds. Their implementation required a revolutionary mindset shift and cross-departmental collaboration on the customer side, which impressed us enormously and is a guarantee of success for the current beta test.

Mein Pflichtenkompass

The „VBG-Pflichtenkompass online“ (can be translated as obligation navigation system) is one of two service design blueprints. Running at the minute, we are looking forward to iterating it after analysing the user patterns.

With little effort, the new tool anonymously analyzes the current state of security at the office workplace in your own company and refers in a compact form to individual improvement options as well as further information and support offers from VBG.

Those who invest 30 minutes will learn a lot: Five short questions about your own company help you analyze the current situation. The users can then find out which occupational safety issues are particularly important to them. In the next step, the working conditions of the employees are analyzed. Then specific possibilities for improvement are suggested. With the help of an individual action list, users can get started immediately. The program is so smart that it immediately calculates, for example, how many fire protection workers or first aid workers a company needs.

“The obligation navigation system relieves those interested of going through a whole brochure or a law text by reducing the information to its core,” explains Annette Jacobs, prevention advisor and project manager at VBG. “This is essential so that the users get the aspiration to deal with the topic,” says Heiko Tullney, our colleague and project lead. After all, measures such as a risk assessment and investments in the prevention of illness-related absences help the entire company.
