Karel went to San Francisco - not just for fun, but to bring us new ideas and attend IBM's #think2019
At Day 0 my colleagues send me to amazon go. The self-service shopping experience. I didn't mind the experience. But the sandwich wasn't the best I ever had.
Instead I found the vending machine at CAFEX quite impressive.
My 5 take-aways from Day 1 #Think2019:
#designthinking #informationarchitecture #quantumcomputing #design
Rainy Day 2 at #Think2019 with my 5 thoughts to think:
#productdesign #processautomation #AI #innovation
Day 3, #Think2019 started with a beautiful quote from Chelsea Clinton: “Optimism is a moral choice” and ended with Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen making their point: there is an art of falling – and getting back up.
And in between? Do we have to worry if people stress how much they work on making #AI trustworthy, transparent, safe and to augment humans not substitute?
No questions, #IBM has a legacy of coming up with innovations that you would not expect from them: like a recycling process for PET bottles. In their 100 years history, they have a proven DNA for mastering change. Just check their Design Thinking initiative, as a recent testimony.
Overall I wondered: Is there enough focus on AI ethics? Especially in designing for AI? Because if we follow Paul Rand’s quote: “Everything is design. Everything.” Shouldn’t design be the starting point for ethics?

Day 4: Honored for the invitation by IBM to speak at #Think2019 on how to align #AI and teams for competitive advantage. Unfortunately my co-speaker Ralph Siepmann couldn't make it to San Francisco but our key message was: Don’t try to predict the future but imagine with all your assets a desirable outcome. Key ingredients: your human fellows, Data and AI. For this, Design Thinking needs to be enhanced and new tools such as “AI empathy test”, “AI variation booster” and “AI interaction play” need to be implemented.
Thanks IBM for a great week and an unforgettable experience!
